Coding Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
In 1992 lymphoma guidelines stated that lymphoma is coded even if it’s in remission. There isn’t a more recent update to that guideline that I can find. The coding guidelines say that if a cancer has been treated and is no longer being treated it is a hx of whatever the cancer may be.
I have a case where the pt has received treatment for non-hodgkins and is no longer being treated. It says that treatment was for curative purposes. Coding is going with hx, but according to the guideline it should be coded.
The code for non-hodgkins is not a 200 category…and would code to other lymphomas in the 200 category using the lymphoma guidelines.
Does anyone what to do when there is no longer treatment for lymphoma? I remember that in the past I was coding it as it were present, but now that process seems to be conflicting.
