Adding CDI staff

Good afternoon everyone. I am excited to report that we are adding 2 additional CDI to my dpeartment. This is great news for me as I have been the sole CDI for 6 years. Now I am charged with putting together CDI orientation. For those of you with robust programs, would you be willing to share your process with me? Additionally, if you send CDI to bootcamp, at which phase within their orientation do you do that? Many thanks!

  • IMO, it is beneficial to obtain the Boot Camp Training prior to commencing CDI activities. The training is very intense and comprehensive and a lot of vital background material is presented.

  • I have been totally blessed in that I did both the online with first
employer and then 2 years later went to live 4 day class.

I couldn't have asked for anything more ideal. When I did the four
day I thought " I'm so glad I did the online the first time. It's so
much info and like a foreign language. It was nice to replay. Online
more in Depth A&P. I think had access for??? 30 or 45 or 60 days
after. For those with zero experience I'd do online.

I loved the live but it filled in a lot of blanks and covered more CMS
    RAC regulatory medical necessity info.

I remember just trying hard to absorb the basics. I'd be going on and
on to preceptor of "my deep thoughts" and they'd ask what's your
principal dx...what who cares what I care about is.... Looking back
funny to see how it finally sunk in .
