Cardiorenal syndrome

Hello everyone! I am looking for a reference on Cardiorenal syndrome. I am thinking of developing a new query if any of you think it is worth the trouble. Is the RW/SOI/ROM elevated with this diagnosis? Is it a more accurate diagnosis of what is going on with the patient vs CHF and ESRD coded together. Or do we code them all? I am only 2.5 years as a CDI. I am thinking it is heart failure due to ESRD because the kidneys just cannot pull off the circulating volume necessary. In addition does the patient have some component of heart failure along with the renal failure?

  • I actually just encountered this today. ACDIS has a good article called " Explore Cardiorenal Syndrome Query Opportunities" in the archives. It even includes a sample query. My problem is that the cardiorenal syndrome my docs are describing doesn't correlate with the cardiorenal code 404.9 etc. Anyway, I ended up using a general query and asking what type of cardiorenal failure they actually mean.
