ICD 10 Bronchscopy with aspiration of secretions

Hi! We are being asked to query for location of areas aspirated during bronchscopy because coding says they needs the specific location such as:

-Carina
-Lingula bronchus
-Lower lobe bronchus R/L
-Lower lung lobe R/L
-Lung lingula
-Main bronchus R/L
-Middle lobe bronchus R
-Middle lung lobe R
-Trachea
-Upper lobe bronchus R/L
-Upper lung lobe R/L
-Lung R/L (not further specified)
-Lung bilateral (not further specified)
-Other (specify)

Anyone else having this issue? We are actually holding a couple of accounts for the specificity even though it does not impact the DRG or SOI/ROM. Thoughts? Thanks!

  • We have been asked on a few accounts to clarify this as well. I was told it was a hard stop, because there is no unspecified if BAL pathway is chose.
