3m encoder question

I've noticed in a few cases that when I use the encoder I get a high SOI/ROM (4/4) but when the coding summary is saved the SOI/ROM is lower. For instance in my current case (expired patient), when saved, we have an SOI/ROM of 2/2. However, when I open the encoder it shows this as a 4/4. I realize that there are CC/MCC exclusions on this case and am assuming this is the cause of the low SOI/ROM but I don't understand the variance?

I just want to make sure this is functioning appropriately??

This has happened to me and it came down to the "disposition" of the patient that impacted the SOI/ROM for me (per our discussion with our coding leader).

  • Yes, this would be true if I was using the free standing encoder and entering the codes without the disposition of expired. But what I am not understanding in this case is that I am actually in the coders encoder. This is a chart that has been saved in draft and I can access the coding summary in the coders system. So all the info should be the same? The coder has the disposition as 'expired' in the encoder.
