Pediatric CDI resources

edited April 2018 in Pediatrics
Hi everyone!

What sorts of pediatric CDI resources are you always looking for? Is there something you'd be interested in seeing from ACDIS in the pediatric CDI space? We want to make sure we're keeping up with the members' needs!

Thanks!

  • Good morning, I have been searching high and low for a single book that covers the special documentation needs for Pediatric CDI and I can not find anything.  I am a quality and education coordinator and a large hospital system and we are trying to start a pediatric CDI program.  But there is so little information it is difficult to direct the specialist.  If you are aware of any current training guides, or books, please let me know.  Thank you.

There currently isn't a single resource for Pediatric CDI Programs. The CDI Pocket Guide by Dr. Pinson and Ms. Tang is a great resource for some common diagnoses. I would say the best resource at this point is the Forum. Feel free to post questions here as many of us have started up Pediatric CDI Programs "from scratch"  and can probably help you. There are many seasoned Pediatric CDI's on the forum.

Please feel free to reach out to me via email and I will do what I can to answer specific questions. My email is jwmorris@health.southalabama.edu

  • I agree with Jeff. I also recommend the 2017 CDI Pocket Guide by Pinson & Tang as a resource and this forum is very helpful. Also ACDIS site has useful information  under resources~ many different CDI specialists (adult and pediatric) have voluntarily contributed info for others to use or refer to. I advise all your CDIs be ACDIS members so they have full access to the site/resources/forum.

(Also, I believe you can contact anyone on the forum by clicking on their name above their post/comment and sending him/her a private message.)

  • There is a specific ACDIS sub-group that is strictly pediatric CDI-centric.  we hold quarterly meetings and call ourselves APDIS.  Once registered as a member of APDIS you can certainly reach out to any of our members to ask CDI questions.  Val Bica
  • Hi , unfortunately, at this time there is nothing out there. I agree that using this form and the conf calls are a great resource.

  • :) Looking forward to the new Pediatric CDI book from HCPro "Pediatric CDI: Building Blocks for Success" that comes out this month!
  • The new book from HCPro is very good. Another book recommeded by Dr. Kennedy  and Dr. Brian Hill to me was “ Harriet Lane Handbook from John Hopkins. This is a pediatric book with diagnosis, clinical indicators ,and treatments used by pediatrics. Might help to initiate program.
  • Thanks, @jostwinkle@medpartnershim.com! I'm so glad you liked the new pediatric book! It was a pleasure working with so many pediatric CDI folks on it and seeing their hard work come together.

Thanks for the recommendation as well! It's always great to know of other resources out there, especially for pediatric diagnoses :)
  • I sent in my info for the APDIS website but have heard nothing back. Can someone advise.

  • @jostwinkle@medpartnershim.com sorry for the delayed response! Did you send your info in via the online membership roster or directly to the APDIS leaders? I'd suggest reaching out to @leah.savage and Val Bica. Their contact info can be found on the group's page: https://acdis.org/chapters/acdis-networking-groups/pediatric

  • Is there any reference for Pediatric Respiratory Failure? I have a 6 YO  patient admitted with Asthma Exacerbation and the  ED MD documented Acute Hypoxic Respiratory Failure- O2 Sats 84% w/ RR- 43-46. 3 Liters of O2.  I am trying to validate the DX.  Thanks!
  • Hi! I am from The University of Chicago/Comer Children's Hospital. I purchased the entire Pediatric CDI Essential Skills. While I do review pediatric cases I was looking for information for neonates specifically as we were started up our Neonatal CDI program in Feb 2023. I also attended every neonatal education class that was available at the ACDIS Conference in Chicago this past May.

I have very motivated providers in our NICU and I am looking for more information and education. Is there anything else out there specifically pertaining to the neonatal population?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Shannon,

I'm one of the leaders of the APDIS group. Shoot me an email and we can talk more about this. I'd like to get some of the past info we have on hand to you and also start to send you the webex invitations and such for the presentations we have: bush-amy@cooperhealth.edu.

  • I have used the ACDIS book many times for my Peds CDI in the past as well as the ACDIS Pocket Guide.
