Sickle cell patient with Acute chest and infiltrates treated with antibiotics

Does your facility query for the diagnosis of pneumonia in a sickle cell patient admitted with a pain crisis and acute chest syndrome?  Patient is started on IV antibiotics and chest XRY shows infiltrates. The patient is treated with 8 days of  IV antibiotics while inpatient and discharged home with PO antibiotics to complete a 14 day course. 

Comments

  • Yes we do ask if acute chest with or without pneumonia with patient treated with antibiotics.


  • Pt admitted with chest film dated 9/14/18 stating 'infiltrates'. 

     WBC is "X" and Procalcitonin is "X".  Pt has cough and temperature of X.  Started in IV Antibiotics (state drug).

     Please indicate if there is a diagnosis associated with these findings.
