TYPE II M.I. CODING

We are currently looking at our DRG assignments for Sepsis with a Type II M.I. due to demand ischemia from the Sepsis  .  Our Coders are placing these patients in a DRG of 280.  With Sepsis as the Principal/ Admitting diagnosis, and the Secondary diagnosis the Type II M.I.  Their Encoder puts the patients in 280. Is this correct?

    I just entered it into our encoder and the grouper puts it to DRG 871.  We use Optum.

    Type 2 MI can’t be used as PDX: If sepsis is cause of type 2, Sepsis must be the PDX and the DRG will be 871 - Sepsis w/ MCC
