Status Post Orchiectomy for Prostate CA
Could I get some opinions on this clinical scenario? Patient status post Orchiectomy due to Prostate CA. Now returning with rising PSA after treatment. The patient is treated with Lupron (adjuvant) hormone treatment which slows down the growth of cancer cells. There is differing opinions regarding Lupron treatment being prophylactic and not active treatment. Would you report this as a recurring Prostate CA or "history of" with R97.21? Please explain your rationale to your answer.

Please see AHA Coding Clinic 1Q 2006 pg 9: Suppressive therapy is current/ongoing treatment of the cancer, assign the prostate cancer as a current condition, not a history of cancer.
