CCDS Requirement

I am wondering how many programs require the CCDS? I know ACDIS requires a minimun of 2 years in CDI to apply. Currently our program requires the CDS obtain certification between by year 3 of employment. For some of our staff this can be difficult if they have struggled with learning the role to begin with.

If you do require CCDS, is there an expected timeframe for the staff member to obtain the certification?

Does your program provide a prep course for the exam?

    Hello-


    Our org requires it after 2 years of employment. We allow them a total of 6 months to obtain. This gives them a chance to retake if they fail the first attempt. If after two attempts, they still do not pass, we work with them to find a different position with our hospital system.

    We do not offer a prep course for the exam, but we work closely with them and give them resources, such as the ACDIS Study Book, 1:1 time with Supervisors, HealthStream modules, etc.
