  • We dont review Peds/NICU routinely but I have met with our Pediatric intensivists on occasion. I have provided them with common CC/MCC lists and Documentation Tips. We altered them to make them more relevent to Peds by adding additional common pediatric diagnosis (I asked for help from a Peds RN for this). Otherwise, my suggestions were the same for peds/NICU as they are for the regular Drs. My experience is that this is a "forgotton" area and they have not been traditionally included in these discussions. Our Peds Intensivists did not know the correct terminology (Resp FAILURE, encephalopathy, ABL anemia, etc).

  • I agree with Katy~ resp failure, sepsis (criteria varies for ages).
Plus: malnutrition/nutritional status, non sign-symptom dx (list
differentials), no symbols, link organism to type of pneumonia. I meet
with residents (hospitalists if they come) 1 day a month for
education/presentation re: CDI. Relatively new program here for peds so
it's a work in progress. I make handouts, pocket cards for
residents/hospitalists, email new physicians about my role and queries,
    etc.

Dr Ahmed, just in case it escaped your notice, the April 2010 ACDIS Journal had one (or more) articles on CDI peds & OB.

Also article by Dr Gold on the blog (1 dec 2011).

There is a "Rock a by Baby" presentation scheduled for the ACDIS Conference in San Diego, what a title "Rock a By baby."

  • I am hoping to connect with those who work in children's settings or who focus on pediatric/NICU reviews to start a networking group of sorts. Please e-mail me if you can help and/or are interested in joining for a networking telephone meeting on the topic.
