  • Our hospital reimbursed us after we passed the certification exam, but no additional pay, and they do not pay for credential maintenance.

  • My hospital gave me the same compensation as they do for a CCRN or other similar certifications. A whopping $0.75/hr. At least it is being seen as equal value equally with other nursing certifications.

I was asked by my boss to write up a little bit about the certification for the education dept in order to see if it could qualify. I included that it is a nationally recognized certification and also recognized by Magnet.

  • Nothing here. VA has a list of approved certifications they give awards to for nurses. They are currently reviewing the CCDS certification at my request.

They are reviewing the career ladders now and will be offering an incentive bonus for the CDI certifications and Coding certifications.

    Zip...Zilch...Nada...

Our facility cut certification pay a while back due to financial
constraints. At that time is was mostly for nurses in special care areas.

Currently we receive annual certification pay equal to the other credentialed nurses, CCRN, ANA certifications, etc.. The CCDS is not required as a part of the job description. We thought about changing it to required after 2 years in the position of CDS, but then the staff would not get the extra pay.

The only compensation I get is personal satisfaction and the clinical ladder of a whopping 0.50/hr but there are at least 10 different items that need completed to maintain this.

  • I took the CCDS exam for two reasons:

    1. It is regarded as 'the' certification that ensures competency for :
Application of clinical knowledge and review judgement; MS-DRG
    assignments; Documentation and regulatory practices;
    2. The CCDS is becoming 'required' in order to ensure baseline
competencies by many facilities and consulting firms when one applies
for a CDS position - so even though most of us with the credential
accrue no additional $ for achieving the CCDS status, it seems like a
    'must' within the industry.

Having said that, additional compensation and recognition are
justified, in my opinion. I have found the consulting world recognizes
credentials in the market more often than hospitals.

I have never received any additional pay for any of my certifications, including my CCRN. I have always obtained and maintained my certifications for my own personal satisfaction.
