CDI in the Emergency Department

I am new to CDI. I reviewed prior posting about CDI in the ED but havent been able to find out if this is working for anyone or how they go about this. Does anyone have any new information about this?

Thanks!!

  • If you check on the Forms and Tools page of the ACDIS website, you can hear the quarterly conference call for Nov. 2011 during which a discussion of OP CDI centered on work in the ED.

Please call me or email me privately. You are echoing my situation to the T. I am in the process of developing our role in the ED. It makes great sense to me and I am interested in your situation.
Would love to brainstorm over ideas without bothering everyone on CDI talk:)

    Thanks

Linnea, we will check back into CDI Talk when we finish our brainstorming session.
I want to share. Just don’t know what I am sharing yet :) :)

  • Me too!

    I LIKE to be "bothered"
-- no, I am not on medication, why?

    :)

Look forward to hearing a synopsis of your conversation!

  • Hi to All u Talkers,
I am new to this site, but have found much of your information helpful! My sentiments-Please bother us with all the talk. I am learning. I've been in CDS for 3 years now, one of the first in my hospital to train for this position and one other person working with me. So just 2 of us in our facility, so keep the info coming-sorry I have not had much to add, but hopefully will soon.

I understand Deb- I was all alone at my hospital for four years. we now have a second CDS- but I have almost always felt i was "alone in this world".

  • Thanks Laurie,
-EXACTLY how I feel-so much to learn-trial and error-here! I finally started looking online-ACDIS- to try to up my skills and have some resources-you Guys are great and I am hearing the same problems I have been fighting from the start! We do not have a program in place, where we do pre-billing reviews!! I think that is a must-but no one else here really agrees. Our worksheets are reviewed by the coders and they leave us a copy of mismatches and sometimes why, like coding rules, what they choose and why, etc. but no pre-review with CDS. Wondered how many of you do this? And what kind of processes you have?

  • Deb --

    First, Welcome.

Second, contribute by asking questions -- :)
(Don't feel like you need to contribute in any other way until you're ready)

Third, if you want to start a new conversation, then start a new thread -- makes it much easier for everyone to locate inactive threads to research information, as well as to follow along with current conversations.

    Mayra,

Fyi...If I remember correctly, Stonybrook (also in Long Island) has an established program and I think they do outpt/ED CDI. I could be wrong, but I think the manager may have done a webinar or was on a quarterly call in the past to discuss this topic.
