situation: patient with pmh lung cancer presents for difficulty swallowing. work up reveals esophageal cancer mets. recommendations include tube feeding as well as referral to oncology. chart reflects patient has had a significant weight loss recently, bmi 15, cachexia, and malnourished. pt subsequently decides against pursuing any treatment for cancer including tube feedings. is it appropriate to query for degree of malnutrition as patient ultimately declined interventions for support?
