    Hi everyone,

I’m an RN with 18 years of experience, currently working as a Quality Assurance Manager in a home health agency. My background includes ICU nursing (2008-2010) and rest of my career in case management, and for the past six years I’ve specialized in chart auditing, clinician and physician queries, documentation education, and ensuring compliance with CMS guidelines and standards.

I’m very interested in transitioning into the outpatient CDI space and would appreciate your insights on a few questions:

    • Does my experience in home health QA and documentation position me well for an entry-level outpatient CDI role?
    • Are there organizations that hire and train candidates with strong QA and regulatory backgrounds but no direct CDI experience?
    • Based on my current role, would I qualify to sit for the CCDS-O exam, or would I need to pursue the apprenticeship pathway and gain one year of outpatient CDI experience first?

I’m trying to assess whether this is a realistic and worthwhile career shift, and how receptive the job market is to someone with my background. I’d be grateful for any advice, encouragement, or suggestions from those who’ve made similar transitions or work in outpatient CDI.

    Thanks so much in advance!
