Coding Certification

I would like opinions from all who have anything to say as to which class(es) are best to prepare for a coding certification AND which certification is the best to get for someone who already has CCDS? Thanks in advance. Donna

  • I just got my CCS and I did not take a class. I studied the AHIMA study guide exclusively. I do work fairly closely with coding as I review all death charts retrospectively WITH our coding manager after they have been coded in draft so I have learned a lot from her.
I do not know a lot about all the different certifications. The coding manager recommended the CCS for me. I did create a thread after I took the exam with some tips so if you decide on that, check it out, I'd be happy to answer any questions.
I will say, the CCS was absolutely the hardest and most stressful exam I have ever taken. The NCLEX was a
Total breeze compared to this. Now, I'm sure much of this is because it really is outside of my skill-set, but it really was tough. I also did not have time to prepare much for it until a week or so prior to the exam. After taking the exam though, I think I could have significantly increased my score using testing strategy, but I didn’t really know how that was going to work out until I got in there.

I have not taken my CCDS yet. Its scheduled for next week. After taking the CCS, I am having a really tough time getting motivation to study for the CCDS, so hopefully I do ok.

    Good luck!

I bet you'll be fine with the CCDS. I didn't think it was particularly
easy when I took it 3(?) years ago. But it does not sound as hard as
what you're talking about. Please tell me how to access your thread.
    Thanks.
