ICD-10 Compass: Advisory Board Product

Is anyone familiar with or using this this product?

We had a demo a few weeks ago and I thought it looks awesome! I don't know how involved everyone is in ICD-10 planning at their facilities but we are a smaller hospital (260 beds) so it feels like I'm involved in everything. It allows you to look at patient data and see exactly what will require further documentation from providers, areas or weakness, as well is just areas we can expect to see a decrease in reimbursement. You can fiter by MD, procedure, dx code, etc. If anyone is familiar with CRIMSON, it looks very similar to me, with a different focus. I am a ICD-10 trainer but have always felt that there was very little real tools to explain exactly what we should be focusing on for CDI in regards to ICD-10.

My hospital has asked me to attend a symposium on the product later this month in DC and I am just wondering if anyone else has experience with it and what they think.

Thanks

We had a meeting about it yesterday and I think we are going to go with
it. Seems like you can pull up some good data to work with in the
teaching of ICD-10 to the docs. Let me know what you decide at your
facility and I will keep you posted too.

  • The symposium is the 25th, so hopefully I'll have info after that. My hospital has not signed a contract but it sounds like they are doing it.

  • Any updates on this topic? We have a demo w/The Advisory Board Company. Guess they are making their way around the country... Interested in hearing any opinions regarding their experiences with products and services of this group.

  • I went to their leadership summit in April which highlighted a couple large hospitals that are using it (I think it was Mayo and Trinity). We have purchased the product but have only had our first introductory meeting. The demo looked great to me. How we translate that to OUR hospital with OUR current resources is still sort of a mystery to me. The hospitals they highlighted are HUGE and have way more resources (meaning people) than us. They seemed to have teams of data analysts, CDI, Specialty coders, etc managing the program. I am not sure how it will work for us exactly. We are 260 beds. Currently we are understaffed with 2 CDI's including myself and I have many ancillary duties outside of actual concurrent chart reviews. We are trying to hire currently. We have data analysts that currently manage Crimson (another advisory board product) and we are likely going to try to tag team on them. This will mean the program itself will likely be housed in Quality since that is where Crimson is. However, this is a little strange because currently Coders are under HIM (obviously) and CDI is under Care Coord. So in the past, Quality has not been involved in this kind of thing, although we do provide significant support to them with Crimson.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'm rambling. I wish I had more info. I'll be interested in hearing what you think about it after your demo.
