Re: Benefits of further credentialing for "more mature"age group for further professional
General comments:
When I have conversations with my staff about considering credentialing (usually CCDS), I tend to phrase the conversation surrounding their career pathway interest. For our market (900 beds in rural Easter NC), there is no economic benefit for the CCDS. Our organization does not require it. In a different market, where there are CDS's that are applying for positions, I have no doubt it can be beneficial.
From a personal professional standpoint, I do believe it to be worthwhile. Serves as a broadly recognized mark of distinction that demonstrates a level of knowledge, skill & achievement.
There are several previous threads that discuss in some detail folks perception and experiences with various certification, definitely worth reading.
You might want to contact a placement company to give a better perspective on the national scene for marketability of certification. The only dedicated CDI placement company I am aware of are Scott & Devon at CDI Search (https://cdisearchgroup.com/).
Other's may be aware of additional companies.
As other's have commented, the age you've mentioned would be far from a factor in my view.
I disagree that this particular field tends to be a field for the young. Seems to me (and looking at the average years of professional experience -- 41% 20 to 30 years, 29% 30+ years --http://www.hcpro.com/acdis/view_readerpoll_results.cfm?quiz_id=2278), this is a field for the experienced professional.
Specifically in response to the original poster:
You mention 'CCDIS' -- did you mean CCDS (ACDIS), C-CDI (DocuComp), CDIP (AHIMA), or something else?
In general, I am not certain whether additional certification will be useful or improve your marketability. I do however have a very strong preference for either the CCDS or CDIP due to the requirements for either to be able to sit and take the exam.
For a CDI professional, the only certification (in addition to CCDS or CDIP) that I would generally advise to consider is AHIMA's CCS. It might open a very few doors that wouldn't otherwise be open.

Already having a BSN (>30yrs),CCDIS,and CCA, how beneficial do you all feel further credentailing would be for career advancement for persons age 50 and above. I would like some honest and sincere feedback. We all know this tends to be a world for the young.
