Physician advisor book?
Hi folks, need some advice. Have a new physician advisor who is asking for a reference book he can use for CDI. I've looked through HCPro's products (such as CDI Pocket Guide, Physician Documentation Pocket Guide), and AHIMA's products, and I am not finding anything that is specific to helping a physician advisor both understand his role and become more proficient at documentation. Any suggestions?
Thx,

Strongly endorse the Physician Advisor pre-conference -- excellent last year, great clinical & documentation as well as role content.
HCPRo has a book by Dr Mark Michelman "Optimizing the Physician Advisor in Case Management" that actually has a broader focus, has content that is applicable to CDI, and actually does have some content specifically discussing CDI (as many MDs in the PA role with CM also are involved with CDI). I have this book, think it helpful in the role of PA.
Two books to consider on the general CDI topic (though not specifically for a PA):
From AHIMA is Ruthann Russo "Clinical Documentation Improvement". Might be useful to the physician. It's higher level picture discussion & program level approach, as well as discussions regarding working with physicians & Russo's focus on physicians would likely be helpful.
The only other book (which I haven't obtained yet) is "Successful Collaboration in Healthcare: A Guide for Physicians, Nurses, and Clinical Documentation Specialists" by Colleen Stukenberg.
I would think the CDI Handbook would be very helpful as far as CDI knowledge content (focusing on issues of documentation with chart reviews).
