Documentation is Everything-ACDIS Conference Presentation-Queries/Blank Page

Hi Everyone!!! Thanks so much for packing the Randle Ballroom today for my presentation! I hope everyone had fun! I apologize for not being able to finish the last slide.. I think I got a little passionate about talking about CDI!!! I do want to share the information regarding information we would have talked about on the slide labeled "Take out a blank piece of paper" at the end of the presentation. . (for those of you who missednference-we had one concept that still needed to be wrapped up and I feel like it is an important part of spreading your CDI Passion....).

We talked abouhorne importance of using your queries as an educational opportunity so that the docs learn from each query. So here is the summary of what we would have reviewed on this slide:

Be careful with your queries... Make sure they are compliant and not leading before you try to use them as educational opportunities! On the blank paper, refer back to the queries in case example #6 the UM Outlier Case. Can you spot the queries that would be considered leading? Clue: Several of these queries need more choices in the multiple choice answers and those choices should include all relative choices and diagnoses regardless of the impact on the DRG. PNA is also not an approved abbreviation for pneumonia. The queries can certainly help provide educational opportunities but make sure you are compliant when giving them choices! It is better to protect the integrity of your program than to optimatize the DRG inappropriately! Make your records defendable in every situation. Your hospital and your docs will thank you!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful time at the conference!!! It has been great meeting everyone!!! If you didn't make it this year, maybe we will see you next year!!!

Thanks again for learning with me today!!! We all make great Secret Agents!!!-Vicki Davis

    Robert,

It was great meeting you as well!!! I am glad you brought me your card b/c it was a crazy day!

I feel terrible that the presentation went over... We had some glitches with the audio and the time keeper forgot to update her time cues... thank goodness I saw Melissa waving! But otherwise, I think everything was good! I hope everyone at least had fun and took some ideas home. I had to have someone write, perform, produce, and record the theme song b/c of copyright issues so we put a lot of work into the music! Fortunately, the music minister at my church did it for free and I just had to pay the studio $100 bucks!

So good to meet you! Thanks so much for coming up after the presentation!!!- V
