Jill,
You may find this ACDIS blog post helpful which I put together. At the end there are several references cited.

We have recently gone through an audit and have had a couple of chart reviews and subsequent recommendations made indicating that we should have queried for ATN(acute tubular necrosis). In our search for clinical indicators to support an ATN query, we have found very little in the way of ATN specific clinical indicators. Many of the clinical indicators are shared with ARF/AKI. We would greatly appreciate any information that would help us with this diagnosis from a CDI/query perspective.
Many thanks to you Katy, Dorie has shared with me the one's you sent her already.

Also a great reference to explain ATN a little further is Dr. Trey La Charite's track at this year's conference titled: The Kidney Disease Acronym Spectrum: ARI, CKD, AKI, ARF, and ESRD
