RE: Post discharge queries re: Pathology report documentation
In response to Don from Greenville, NC, coding guidelines, or as we have been told, state you can not code a pathologist finding without documentation by the attending. The pathologist is not considered a consult such as anesthesia. This is what our coding specialist have told us.
We do pose post discharge queries to the attending for the path reports---if it will address the severity of illness and risk of mortality-- such as metastatic sites.
