MIDAS for CDI documentation

We are preparing to implement MIDAS for our CDI documentation. I am wondering if anyone out there currently using MIDAS has built customizable dictionaries for the CDI module, and if so, would you be willing to share?

I would also be interested in information regarding reports you are generating.

What is the CDI module called?
I am interested into looking into Midas for the clinical documentation specialist. At present our facility utilizes Midas for case management purposes only.

The CDI module is actually built in as part of the HCM (Hospital Case Management) system - so you already have it. This was one of my discoveries at the ACDIS conference; I stopped by the MIDAS vendor booth and had a 1:1 demo. When the rep informed me that we already had the access to the module ( translation: no additional cost!) I could hardly wait to come back and tell my director. We also use MIDAS for Case Management. At this time we are using version 8.1.5 and will upgrade to version 11 in July - this cost is also included in current contract.

  • The draw back to products such as MIDAS (like Allscripts or Morrisey -- which we are looking at moving into since our system uses Morrisey), is the amount of building needed.
These products are not plug & play.
That is also the huge strength -- once built out, it can directly reflect your process, collect exactly the data you want, and be flexible (depending on IT support of course) to change when & as your process changes.

The "built customizable dictionaries" that Vivian referred to are a key part of the building process I referred to, are a major driver toward the customization and the data collection.

I would be interested also, as we are working on building our CDI into Morrisey, and there ought to be a number of parallels between softwares as far as what tables/dictionaries are build and the content.

What is included in these dictionaries?
To build a dictionary would involve what?

    Don,
How are you coming along with the CDI in Morrisey ... I am thinking about
    it.

  • As I understand it, these dictionaries refer to fields that are available or built into the database and contain the possible elements for that field (think question with drop down menu of answers).
Some typical things to think about -- priority focus for next concurrent review; type of query asked (broad categories like HF, ABLA, PNA, Sepsis...); physician response (maybe Y/N, or may slice as finely as you might wish); outcome of current review; outcome of physician contact.....just about anything you can imagine & find worth the time & effort (from an impact on workflow and efficiency perspective) to collect or document.

Another dictionary concept is for 'templates' -- those phrase that you document over and over...

  • Gail,

We are just starting the process of designing & building out the documentation review section. Flexibility appears there to do everything and anything we could possibly want -- my data geekdom is in overload & I am relying on my staff to tell me "NO" when I get carried away!!

Need to design a tool / system that helps the work process, flow & load while allowing capture of great data -- not to have the data possibilities impact negatively on our ability & effort to meet our core mission / function.
