When "acute anemia due to gi blood loss" is documented, does the acute apply to the blood loss or just to the anemia? Do I have to query I don't want to query. What do you think? Thanks Martha
The term 'acute' would be applied only to the anemia in the scenario you offered.

When we received training by consulting group in 2008, we were told to code as ABLA if documented any of these ways: anemia d/t acute gi bleed, acute gi bleed with anemia, or acute anemia d/t gi bleed.
