Physician "Thank You"

Looking for suggestions on how to show our appreciation to our physicians that complete queries in timely manner. Also, looking for suggestions for kudos ideas for those physicians who consistently document well.

Thanks,

I made excellence certificates for those who consistently documented well and hung them in the doc mail room where all physicians could see. It was quite competetive and poor documenters wanted to know how to earn them. Worked well.

Would also like to hear ideas for answering clarifications in a timely manner as well.

I send thank you notes or email a thank you if I can't catch them in person. I also use a "good documentation certificate" I borrowed from the ACDIS Forms and Tools library that I pass out on occasion through the provider's supervisor.

We are also going to have our second annual excellence in documentation awards during CDI week in September. Providers are nominated and selected by the coders and certificates are awarded at the medical staff meeting. That was very well received last year.

  • We are taking candy bars and making "wrappers" for them that say "thank you" for ...timely, good, documentation....we also give out "movie tickets". We are amazed at how well those little things are received by our doctors!

Chocolate. They got to where if I brought a chart and no chocolate, they would pout. Problem is, it gets really expensive after a while and we don't have a budget so it was coming out of my own pocket.

I did the chocolate with thank you cards and hand written notes to each physician asa a thnak you for cdi week last year. I as well take things out of pocket as we also have no budget for things like this. They loved the chocolates.

Chocolate and Skittles seem to be the most popular with the hand written thank you note. Recognition of individuals sent to the department chairs for review at department meetings work well too. We do the certificate thing, but chocolate always wins out! Last year we catered breakfast for the docs and ordered very nice engraved professional ink pens. (You would be surprised at how cheap you can get a nice looking pen....) We gave them out at the Med Exec meeting to all of the staff. Big hit! :)
