Chart Wise

Hi All,
I need to speak with any one, including Carla Fowler, who currently uses Chart Wise. I also need to speak with any one who uses Cerner. Finally, I need to speak with anyone utilizing both MS and APR DRG's. More specifically I need to find out what interfaces, i.e.HL 7, BAR, ORU you are using, etc.

Help. Things may be at a tipping point.

  • Please explain what "chart wise" is.

We looked at Chart Wise. Liked the program. Its also very reasonably priced. I think around $15\ for the entire installation and around 10K a year after that for updates/maintenance. It is a free-standing software and we are looking for software in which all our staff - CDI Dept. And Coding dept. May communicate with each other. Right now our Coding dept has no idea if we have queried a chart or to check for a query on a chart we have reviewed.

Software may be nice but the reality is software does not make or break your CDI program. The CDI program is only as successful as the CDI staff executing the initiatives. Queries can be tracked with a home grown tracking tool.
    Thanks

Taking unnecessary labor intensity out of the equation CAN help increase
numbers of reviews and numbers of queries. Home grown is great
especially if you have someone available to do the data entry. But why
in the world would you want to have an expertly trained CDS spend
valuable time performing data entry tasks especially when there is
software available to do the menial stuff?

Nice reply Donna! It5 doesn't take much of an analysis to see a very positive ROI for electronic management software.

  • Many of these products go way beyond replacing data entry. They abstract data from the chart (if you have a hybrid or complete EHR) and suggest queries, perform electronic queries, calculate your DRG, track if your query has DRG impact, etc.
You can spend your time reviewing the charts where you can actually have an impact.
We are in the process of evaluating these products now - there are a few amazing products out there.
Software can make your program go places where you would never be able to go manually. I have been doing this for 10 yrs using home grown tracking tools and manual queries, paper census. I am so excited to know that our program will go to a whole new level once we have our new software product in place.
