CDI week

Hi everyone,

Just wondering what activities organizations are doing for CDI week in September? Would like some fresh ideas… Last year we gave out pins & pens and had our department pictured on the website.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Joyce

  • Hello gang.....been a rough week here-especially for "CDI" week-making it all the more FRUSTERATING!

I spent FIFTY minutes trying to educate one of our "Outlier Physicians"....rather I spent 50 minutes of him "right-fighting" with me, and telling me "CDS are not the government", and basically yelling at me. I tried several approaches to educate him on the fact that all I needed was for him to clarify some ambiguous and conflicting information in a chart that related to PDX. I tried to make it light hearted, tried to bribe him, and eventually it was just him berating me and my position and all the coders. (The fact that one of the issues he was complaining about was my taking him away from patient care-when in fact if he would have just signed the query and answered it, that he could have been back to patient care in less than 2 minutes-instead of 50!)

I left defeated and frusterated-went into the stairwell and cried (which I do in ANY circumstance I feel passionately about) :) (I KNOW THERES NO CRYING IN DOCUMENTAITON RIGHT!)

Great way to end CDI week. Of note, I did immediately go to the VP of Quality, Safety and Risk, as well as the CMO, who supported me and my position and were SO understanding, that it did help my frustration level.

My only solace is that I know what a quality role I have for both the institution and patients!
I just wanted to sound off to you all as I know we are often in the same boat-one that is leaking, paddling upstream, and while it's raining! :)
