opiod dependence, code 304.00 vs V58.69
I wanted to see how different facilities use these two codes. I was apparently under the incorrect assumption that 304.00 (opioid type dependence, unspecified) was to be used for patients who are being treated for drug addiction and V58.69 for patients who are on other high risk meds for pain (and my assumption would be addicted if taking for a long period of time). I guess this is an opportunity for us to query our docs for drug dependence on those patients who use long-term opiods for pain management. Does anyone have a query they use for these types of patients?
