Myocardial Infarction
Does anyone have a short...to the point CDI Tip for Myocardial Infarction. We write a tip for our physician newsletter every month and just was wondering if someone had a Tip to share. Thanks in advance:)

Clinical Documentation Integrity Fact Sheet
Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
ACS is a term reported as a form of ischemia or angina without myocardial necrosis. ACS is a manifestation of heart disease that suggests patients are at risk for an acute myocardial infarction due to an acute coronary event; however it does not clearly communicate any pathology that may have occurred within the coronary artery, indicate if the patient had a myocardial infarction, nor what complications may have occurred as a result of this event.
To ensure the risk of mortality and complexity of care rendered is accurately reported (coded) for the medical staff as well as for the facility, please distinguish unstable angina from myocardial infarction and be aware the term “ACS†is reported as unstable angina and is not reported as any form of acute myocardial infarction. Please document as a final diagnosis the most appropriate clinical finding supported by your diagnostic efforts.
 Transmural Myocardial Infarct (STEMI)
 Subendocardial Myocardial Infarct (NSTEMI)
 Unstable Angina
Diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI)
The term myocardial infarction reflects cell death of cardiac myocytes caused by ischemia, which is the result of a perfusion imbalance between supply and demand. The following diagnostic criteria should be met to confirm a diagnosis of AMI:
*Universal definition of myocardial infarction
