Changes in PNA
Can anyone else confused about the changes in the PNA DRG's? Not really sure that I am following the Primary and secondary Dx that I am seeing... I'm kinda second guessing myself as the ICD-9 codes repeat after the notation of influenza.
So if you have one of the PNA's noted as primary OR...if you have flu with PNA and the PNA is one of the ones listed, you stay with DRG 177.
Did I say that right?
Is there anything else to add???

If the pneumonia is specified to a degree that would meet complex pneumonia criteria, such as gm-negative, you still have to take the combination code first, but you get to take the gm negative pneumonia as secondary dx and go to the complex pneumonia DRG. But again you don't get the MCC.
Why, I don't know. But it is.
