USE of Material Submitted by Members

I assume we are free to use 'any/all' materials generously shared by our members in our daily work unless the material is marked as proprietary? We have had some excellent materials posted and I would like to circulate some of these among my region.

Thanks, Paul

As far as I know this is correct. Thank goodness for ACDIS, I would
never be able to do my job without it... thanks to all who contribute to
the talk and also make it possible for us to have one.. Jamie

  • Thanks, Jamie - I agree - the resources are very, very good. I was hoping Penny or Melissa could 'verify' we may freely share the information, specifically, a number of excellent PowerPoint presentations have been shared.

  • My understanding is that we can use the information as long as you acknowledge the source.

  • I think it depends how you are using it. If it's something big like a PowerPoint and you are using it in its entirety (or large pieces) without editing, I personally would want to state the source. If its grabbing a few slides, I wouldn't worry about it. As far as queries and such that are posted, I probably wouldn't worry about that either. The reality is, many of my queries look very similar to others institutions even if I didn't get them from another source. We are all querying for the same information most of the time, so they are likely to be similar.
I tend to assume that when I put stuff out there, people may borrow/edit/copy. If I really didn't want that to happen, I probably wouldn't post it.
That's just my personal opinion though. I'd be curious what an ACDIS rep has to say...

  • My general sense, and specifically in regards to anything I've shared --

Please feel free to use, modify, borrow segments, etc.
I personally don't specifically expect a reference back, in part as I expect that work will be modified and customized to meet your individual needs.

Of course, there's always a bit of caveat emptor -- I certainly am fully capable of making mistakes, or not hitting a bullseye...

As other's have said, I am so very grateful for the open & supportive community of ACDIS -- it makes such a huge difference!!
