request for materials

Good morning - Last spring, a team was developed in ACDIS, (Melissa Varnavas, Heather Taillon, Charlene Thiry, Tiffany Estes, myself) to review the Forms and Tools Library on the ACDIS website. Our team is concentrating on "Policies, Procedure, Regulations and Job Descriptions". I was very excited about this opportunity because I can't tell you how often I have used the Forms and Tools Library for new ideas and innovations.

While we have a modest selection, our goal is to expand the library with more choices and suggestions. So a call-out to our generous CDI Talkers! Will you please share some of the documents you may have used or suggestions you wish were on the site?

We hope to get more:

Policies and procedures

Job descriptions
CDI Specialist
CDI Management positions
Physician Advisors

Samples of methodologies for metrics, mortality reviews, etc.

Orientation materials

Other ideas you may have looked for on the site but didn't find?

Thank you very much,

  • Linnea,

I wish I had something to contribute -- but it seems I've previously shared :)
I will take a look and see if I have anything in the realm of metrics...do have something cooking as far as a blog post on benchmarking.

One thing I'd like to see -- there was an article in the last Journal about the orientation program at UNC Chapel Hill. Sounded wonderful!! Perhaps they'd be willing to share materials? If the materials are proprietary, perhaps an outline (the more detailed the better) of topics covered?

Another -- and I'm in the process of updating my reference tool -- hard "number" metrics that are used to evaluate CDS performance for evaluations (won't share now as I haven't finished nor discussed with my team). Generally any evaluation tools.

Somewhat in line with P&P -- anything about program structure & resources (especially at a multiple hospital system level).

Specialized roles (such as educator, auditor -- which was discussed a bit during the national conference presentation about working at home).

Perhaps guidelines or tools for the newer CDS -- how to approach a record for a review, specific things to look for; work process diagrams.

Something about reconciliation -- both CDS work and final coding, as well as the collection & scrubbing of data to achieve really high quality final / outcomes data.

There have been a number of wonderful examples shared in the past via CDI Talk that didn't make it into the F&T...sometimes attachments, other times in the text of the message.

Past blogs might be a good resource, either simply 'copy & paste', or as a starting point if the author would be willing to expand.

    Don

Thank you Don - you are always thinking outside of the box - what great suggestions. Many of the choices we have in the Forms and Tools Library are due to Don's generosity. Please take a look at your own resources - be proud of your hard work and share some of the innovations you have created.

You can send your references directly to Melissa Varnavas at ACDIS or if you prefer to use CDI Talk, the team will make sure it gets routed correctly.

Again, many thanks to our wonderful CDI community,

    Linnea

I recently created a PSI review tip sheet. It has the PSIs that CMS will be "dinging" the hospitals for, the inclusion/exclusion criteria, and what CDI should look for when reviewing to ensure that documentation is correct. I can share this after it has been approved by the leadership team.

    Thanks!
