acute respiratory failure
Hi everyone, I have a question about the dx of acute respiratory failure and documentation stating that the pt was intubated to protect the airway. The pt presented to the ED s/p seizure and the ED physician clearly states he decided to intubate the pt to protect the airway. No clinical indicators of resp failure were present. The admitting hospitalist repeats in the H&P that the pt was intubated in the ED to protect airway but also documents resp. failure due to generalized seizure. I could not find any coding clinics that fit this scenario. Has anyone else dealt with this? Thanks for any help!
