CDI Software for new program

I am a new CDS within a small (160 beds)facility. I am the lone person for this program and am currently looking at vendors for software. Does anyone have and be willing to share info on different programs? I am looking for ease of use, cost efficient and after sale support. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Before looking around to purchase a new software, take a look and see what might already be hidden at your facility (modules not in use but already licensed). This might include 3M, Morrisey, Midas, Softmed and others.
Each of those have a module that can be used for CDI. Can't recall specific examples of whom I've heard using each of these. The 3M module is new (and expensive, probably not already licensed). Morrisey is often used by Case Management as well as quality, peer reporting, infection control, risk/pt satisfaction. Midas I'm not terribly familiar with. Both 3M and Softmed are probably used in HIMS / Coding.

As far as other possibilities, take a look at the vendors listing for the ACDIS conference, there were a number there.

Is there somewhere that has a description/comparison of these products?
We are looking at possibly getting new software because we are not happy
with what we have. Having never shopped for these types of products, I'm
not even sure I know the right questions to ask.

A few quick things I factor include:
1--How well does the software support workflow, activity, documentation, etc.? ie, how much is automated? time saving? does it directly serve my program goals/focus?
2--What am I currently unhappy with? happy with? does the new software address both of these areas to my satisfaction?
3--References? (both ones I've found independently and those referred by the vendor)
4--What data, monitoring & metrics do I want to make sure I capture?
5--How customizable is the software? Ex: If I want more than the basic physician response to queries of Y/N/no response, can those be added easily (and locally)? Can I create custom reports, or am I limited to what the software comes packaged with or to what I can pay an additional fee to procure?

Yes....I too have been looking at software options and have yet to find a really good fit let alone perfect. There are options that will work and that can be tailored to my needs....however our IS department is heavily committed to EMR at the present.

  • Thanks Don, we do have 3M for coding but not licensed for the CDI piece. They (3M) have presented their product in the past, before my arrival. Our case mgmt dept doesnt have a dedicated software program to my knowledge. We have Meditech for our EHR, however we are hybrid at the moment planning and beginning implementation of complete EHR.

I have reviewed some of the vendors that were at ACDIS in Chicago, unfortunately I didnt get to talk with them all. I am interested in ChartWise currently. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
