direct admit for initiation of sotalol

edited May 2016 in CDI Talk Archive
Good afternoon all,
I have a question regarding how to code a chart for direct admission for initiation of sotalol. Pt has a hx of afib and was previously taking amiodarone which was recently stopped secondary to side effects. Being started on sotalol which will require hospitalization for close cardiac monitoring and daily EKG's. Can anyone help with this? My coding help is not available this afternoon for me to discuss w/ her. Thanks!

My thought is the diagnosis that is requiring the sotalol. Chronic afib etc.

Thanks, I thought that also, but then wasn't sure if there was a
specific code for admission for medication requiring monitoring.

    Hi Michelle!

I would code the Atrial Fib as the principal diagnosis.   I don't know of any C. Clinic or guideline which directs you to do anything different.

I appreciate all the help! I thought that was probably right but wasn't sure.
