analyst

Vanessa,

I would be interested to know the scope of your analyst.
Gather and sort data for many departments?
Have the ability to critically examine the data?

    Charlene,
Her CDI duties are mostly administrative. We do not have any software so she manually checks our admissions/discharges to create our daily census and she follows up on queries if they are not complete at discharge. I actually track our numbers and analyze the data by types of queries and the final results.

Thanks for the info. So, not necessarily an RN but computer savvy? It has crossed my mind that an individual who can gather, shuffle and sort data to provide a meaningful picture would be very handy. The picture would include not only query type/response info but physician info (same ones over and over? response appropriate, length of time to answer, noncompliant etc) and patient types which generate the most queries. I don't know, maybe I am way off base. . . seems like such a person would be handy.

  • My suggestion would be to use a newly-minted RHIT in that role - the background and training is ideal as they should understand in-depth the coding and reconciliation issues germane to negotiating change aspects with the coding team.

The trick would be getting administration on board for the idea!! Maybe I'd better try to promote increasing staffing for the review position first.

    Excellent information.
How do you generate your reports?
Do you have criteria in choosing which data needs to be collected?
Your position is wholly within the coding/CDI realm?
