ICD-10 & OB, Pediatrics, NICU &/or Acute Rehab Reviews

Is your CDI Team planning to expland to cover review in any of all of these areas for ICD-10? If so, what are you doing to prepare your staff for reviewing these areas? Are you planning to hire additional staff?

  • Yes, We are expanding from Medicare-only (for the most part) to all-payer, all patients in anticipation of I-10 (as well as other reasons). We are a mid-sized hospital and this has also meant a HUGE staff increase. From 2.5 FTE's a year ago to 8 FTE's! We just expanded to PEDS and our goal is to begin reviewing OB/NICU in October. Our staff is new so we have mainly focused on general CDI education. I am also trying to stay abreast of issues specific to PEDS/OB/etc via online research and discussion with colleagues while supplementing with webinars and such.
It is overwhelming and I am sure we are missing things. Just like we did when we first started this program in the adult population.
