RE: [MARKETING] 3M vs. JA Thomas with EPIC-help please

We have contracted with JA Thomas since 2005, and they have always advocated following AHIMA Practice Briefs (Developing a Physician Query Process 2001 - 2008; and Managing an Effective Query Process 2008 - 2013; and Guidelines for Achieving a Compliant Query Practice 2013 - present).

They currently advise us to include 'other, please specify' and 'clinically unable to clinically determine' on all queries, as well as any other appropriate options/diagnosis (if they exist) in order to be compliant with our current AHIMA/ACDIS Practice Briefs. All of our queries currently are open-ended as we have not yet decided as a facility to allow yes/no queries.

We would not query asking if pt has hepatic encephalopathy; we would use JA Thomas' 360 query template and offered hepatic encephalopathy as one of the possible diagnosis, as well as 'other', 'unable to clinically determine', and any other possible diagnosis based upon the risk factors, clinical indicators and treatment rendered.

Thanks!
Sharon
