This will be even more difficult under ICD-10 – we have been dual coding for a year and initially saw a 65% drop in coder productivity. We are now at a 50% drop in productivity but this drop is going to further highlight the DNFB and production making CDI and Coding much more challenging – at least initially. I agree with Paul – we have had our focus on the QUALITY of the charts representing a TRUE and ACCURATE clinical picture and our senior leadership has been very supportive but I know many of our peers do not have the same level of support from the top down. I would encourage all to start educating your leadership on the drop in productivity that is expected sooner rather than later. Sorry I will get off my soap box now
