tablet use in practice

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the use of tablets as an adjunct to PC use. We currently use EPIC as our EMR and access our workflow /documentation through CDIS/3M product.
Currently we have dual screens at our office desk PC to allow us to utilize both programs at the same time. When we go to the floors we have our laptops in addition to use of a PC in the nurse's station. However, when we round with the docs unless we use our laptops which are cumbersome at best, we go without as the residents use the WOW to enter orders etc. I have suggested purchasing tablets so we can at least access the EMR when rounding. What device do you use for support? Thanks for your input.

    Good Morning Diane,

Our facility also has dual screens with a desk top computer in our
office. We also have 3M, our EMR is Sunrise.

Our team has I-pads to use on rounds and on the units.

Our experience is that the I-pads are not always user friendly. However
they are light and easy to carry around. It is difficult to scroll on
them, even when using a stylus.

We talked about using laptops. So I would be interested in knowing the
pro's and con's of your experience using laptops, as we consider
    changing to them.

    Best Regards,

    Teresa

We use EPIC as well and are going to be getting a couple IPAD for rounding with our providers. We are looking forward to it since we have similar issues you have described.
