Bonus/incentive

Happy Holidays!

Is there anyone out there whose institutions are considering a pay increase, bonus incentive or other financial process for keeping/retaining their CDI and coding staff with the upcoming ICD 10? What does it look like for your institution? A onetime payment? A raise? Installments?

Can someone also tell me if there is anywhere I can find what the pay for a CDI is relative to region/location, bed size etc. Thanks!

  • The ACDIS Salary Survey was published not too long ago -- find it under the Quarterly Journal, Oct 2013.

Working on an article on this idea for the January edition of the Journal.
yes, people are beginning to put retention bonuses in place; giving employees a set amount at increments
25% of the incentive payment once they start their ICD-10-CM/PCS training
25% of the payment once they complete their training, based on an 85% or higher proved competency rate
50% of the payment one year post-ICD-10 implementation
if the staff leaves for whatever reason they would have to pay that money back.
Other options include a set amount at a set time, say every June, of a set dollar amount.
The dollar amount would obviously depend on the facility.
