functional quadriplegia
I think that the diagnosis of functional quad is a great diagnosis to help capture nursing resources. However, I just want to make sure that we are querying for it only when it is appropriate, especially as in many cases it acts as an mcc. There is not a ton of reliable literature on the subject (that I've found), though I have a couple of articles-to include on from acp hospitalist's magazine.
I do not have confusion regarding the clinical indicators needed to query, but the underlying cause is where I am unclear. What I am gathering is that this is more a diagnosis for patients with dementia, etc.. However, it would not be appropriate for TBI, MS, ALS, etc..where true paresis can be present??? Please correct me if I am wrong-thanks!
