Outpatient CDI

I am inquiring about outpatient CDI programs. There seems to be expanding interest in this area. Where do any of you see these outpatient CDI programs typically reside in the health systems; revenue cycle area, HIM, inpatient CDI? Also,where are they most impactful and successful?

    Robert thanks for the info. We have not tried anything yet at our facility, but it is starting to get alot of discussion. We recently had an assessment of our outpatient oncology center.

    Hi David,

    This would be our first dip into the outpatient pool. We actually just started doing mortality review in Jan. and it was kind of like “well you do the inpatients you might as well do them all.”
