MSN degree
I am considering going back to school to obtain MSN. Our facility
provides tuition reimbursment, however reimbursement for non-nursing
program is minimal , so MBA, MHA, MPH, medical informatics programs
are not a choice. I like CDI (doing it for over 4 years) and I am not
interested in a clinical (ex. NP) program at this time. I have looked
into Walden University and they offer 3 non- clinical MSN specialties:
Nursing Informatics,
Nursing Education and Nursing Leadership and Management. As a CDI,
what specialty/ grad. degree do you have or would consider, that
would be most benificial?
Thank you!

I am currently working on my Masters of Science in Health Informatics. I have been doing CDI for 6 years now and a great deal of what I am learning in this Master's program is related to CDI, EHRs and much more. We have a variety of health care professionals in our program. Interestingly enough one of the professors who teaches in the program was my instructor recently at the AHIMA training for ICD-10.
Good Luck to you

I personally think any of the three would be beneficial.

I have a MSN with a focus on leadership. I agree with Mary Hosler that any of the three programs would be beneficial to you. I think that you need to think about what you have the most interest in. I think that all three have a focus that would help you in your work. Good luck!
Thanks,

I have one class left before my final project for a Master's of Science in
Nursing Informatics from Walden. Any of the three paths are good. I would
recommend you decide based on what you think you would like to do in the
future. I chose Informatics because I want to work with Electronic Health
Records and how to improve them for ease of clinician use. Education can be
very helpful in CDI because of all to the physician education that we do.
Leadership is valuable if you plan on advancing into an administrative role.
I have enjoyed the classes at Walden and am able to keep up with class
assignments while working full time. Good luck in whatever path you choose.
