nurse practitioner signing queries

I am curious if any facilities allow the nurse practitioner to answer queries without a co-signature by a physician? We have some nurse practitioner's that have the privileges to do not have to have their progress notes co-signed by the physician, so we are trying to decide if we need to have the queries co-signed or not. If anyone could share what they do in these instances or have any advice please let me know.
Thanks,
Tara

In our facility the physician must cosign the progress note within 24 hours. The progress notes by PAs must be signed by the end of the day. It is part of the policy for use of physician extenders. I would verify their job responsibilities.

All documentation/orders of ours must be co-signed.

What do your bylaws say about NP signing or requiring co signatures? This may be state specific also.

  • Our facility requires co-signatures on all mid-level practitioners documentation.

Same for us as well, we require co-signatures.

  • Our NPs can sign our queries without a cosignature. We accept PA and NP signatures on our queries with no cosignature.

In Oregon, the advanced nurse practice act defines the scope of the NP. At OHSU a co-signature is not required for either the NP or the PA.

As we require all answers to queries to be made within the medical record
and not on the query we have taken their documentation as long as the
    physician countersigns their notes.

I would think for those ARNP's you do not require physician co-sign you
should be able to take their documentation. By not having the information
co-signed you are validating their authority as a practitioner of record and
    their documentation.
