RAC - Coding Clinic Guidelines
We have now recieved our 2nd medical record request from Connolly (Texas). It was EXACTLY 45 days from the 1st one.
One of the things that is standing out above all is quarterly coding clinic guidelines. Obviuosly they have them all built into their computer data base.
One example is Acute Ischemic Colitis and Rectal Hemorrhage. A coding clinic guideline tells us we can not use the hemorrhage with "Acute". However, 3M lets you put it in, bill it, etc...
Just an FYI.....when you get the request for "DRG Validation", get a good coder (with great knowledge of coding clinic) to look it over. It might save you a lot of chart review.....(like looking for stuff that has nothing to do with the request/take back)........
