RE: [EXTERNAL] RE: BMI Calculation
Our coders will not accept an autopopulated BMI because the information is often inputted by a CNA/PCT or other similar staff member. Also, in our EMR the BMI carries over from visit to visit and even if a height/weight is not inputted for this visit, an old BMI may be autopopulated. They do accept a BMI that is in the provider or dieticians note.
Our response to this has been to have BMI autopopulated into the providers note on their template so that the BMI from the ‘banner bar’ is then in a provider note signed by the MD.
