Functional Quadriplegia
Hi,
I have a question regarding query for functional quadriplegia. We have been trying to stay true to the definition of functional quadriplegia - "true paralysis due to inability to move" - when we query.
We having patients who may be able to move their upper arms in a flailing motion - but have no purposeful movement or patients who are contracted but PT notes that the patient can move against gravity but the patient's movement may be so limited that they cannot perform tasks such as feeding themselves or washing their face. We have not been query for functional quadriplegia for these case.
Please note that these are patients who have diagnosis of dementia, cerebral palsy, etc. These are not patient's with diagosis of CVA or traumatic brain injury.
I am wondering how other CDI programs are handling these issues.
Thanks for your help
