Physician Advisor

edited April 2016 in CDI Talk Archive
We're in the process of having our own Physician Advisor who would be working with the CDI and Inpatient Coders. I need some help from those who currently have Physician Advisor(s) working with their program. If you can, please answer the following questions:

1. The number of hours or FTE's dedicated to your team

2. Name of your facility and how many inpatient beds you have

3. How many Clinical Documentation Specialists you currently have working at your facility

4. If you can, please describe the role of your CDI Physician Advisor

I would appreciate any feedback.

Thank you,

    Eileen,

I've been working on a project for just over a year to develop a concept, trial and now am implementing for a team of Physician Advisors (all full time).

Currently have 1.3 FTE's (one full time, one part time), am seeking to initially add 2 more full time (one on board now).

Vidant Health has 8 hospitals (Vidant Medical Center 900 beds, 4 community about 350 total and 3 critical access).

We have 14 CDS's. We don't work at the critical access at present.

I've attached the poster session I did this year (the pre-bill review is a key component to one of the PA roles) as well as a document that discusses various role models.

There are a wide variety of models for PA's currently. On the opposite end for where we are headed is one whom is familiar with general concepts, is willing to be engaged, speaks to peers and encourages participation, is available for clinical discussions for coding & CDI staff. This role can work as a part time (several hours a week) Champion.
