Complicated UTI - Beyond the Urostomy
A patient presents with UTI secondary to poor self cath via Urostomy. Coding Guidelines suggest coding 997.5 and 599.0 to reflect a complicated UTI. Does anyone know if this applies beyond poor self cath via natural opening, excluding indwelling catheters. In other words, is anyone querying for UTI secondary to poor self cath technique when a patient intermittently self caths via natural opening and is it appropriate to code as a complicated UTI?
